What exactly is Technical Computing?

The term "Technical Computing" is still comparatively new. Wikipedia defines it as:
"Technical computing is the application of the mathematical and computational principles of scientific computing to solve practical problems of industrial interest..."

The neighborhood to "Scientific Computing" is very close.
